Apollo Bay in the middle of Autumn is quite sleepy.
Apollo Bay in the middle of Autumn is quite sleepy. No need to book at restaurants :) and plenty of picnic spaces. The coffee shops are open and so is the distillery, which makes excellent Gin and has Happy Hour from 16:30 to 17:30.

I loved the hidden beach behind the town.
I loved the hidden beach behind the town. Its a drive away from the 12 apostles, waterfalls etc, but its still a great place to stay and look around for a bit. It was super calm and quiet but there were also streets full of people and cafees.

The beach walk is excellent and you can watch, or join in with, the surfers. There is also a very nice golf course near the marina.
If you want yo bbq there are plenty of places to just set up and go with the bbq’s ready to go.
The shops are good and the restaurants are very nice.
The town is also home to the Southern most pub in Sustralia, where you can get a very nice meal.

Went in mid Feb and it wasn’t too busy which was great. Can get cold and windy so bring some warm clothes! Lovely beach and relaxed town. Chris’s Restaurant was fantastic as a fine dining option and just a short drive away.

The location is good and close to the beach.
The location is good and close to the beach. However, the facilities lack maintenance and rooms have broken furnitures ( pictures annexed) our toilet had a large spider net in the window (inside).
Nobody showed up despite through booking email confirmation.
Not worth it. Happy to provide more details.

Beautiful beaches - be sure to walk along Marengo beach.
Beautiful beaches - be sure to walk along Marengo beach. Day trippers make lunchtime busy in town. Great fish & chips, oysters, scallops & crayfish at harbour (10% surcharge on weekends!). Good fresh fish and yummy seafood starters at fish shop. Good Italian.
When you come to this hotel, you will find that they are very close to the harbor and the beach. Their manager is very friendly and very enthusiastic to help you meet all your needs. There is a fireplace in the room, which makes the family particularly cozy in the evening. In addition, the hotel provides free rental of rubber boats and fishing gear, and there are also fishing spots nearby, which is very attractive. Next time come to Apollo Bay, must stay a few more days to go fishing!
Stayed for long weekend as a family of 4, kids age 8 &10. Great cheap and cheerful typical YHA experience. Bunk room comfy, shared bathrooms clean, good kitchen and lounge facilities. It's not a luxury hotel but a great alternative to staying in more expensive self catering accommodation when you're mostly going to be out and about. Kids felt welcome.
We loved that Hillside House is so private and nestled away in the bush but it was only 10minutes into Apollo Bay. We loved the character of the house and we were all very comfortable and warm throughout our weekend. All of the beds were very comfortable. The bottle of wine and chocolates were a lovely touch.
The motel was conveniently located on the esplanade at Apollo Bay very close to the main shopping strip so it was within easy walking distance to the beach and cafes and restaurants. The hotel manager and staff were very friendly and helpful and were accommodating whenever we needed assistance.
The staff were great! Friendly, helpful with suggestions about restaurants and places to see on the Great Ocean Road. The breakfast was well done and a treat for us. Our suite was very clean and overall we would recommend Captains at the Bay as the place to stay in Apollo Bay.
There was a nice view of the beach although unlike depicted in the photos, it is across the highway from the room. There was a comfortable table and chairs for dining in front of the windows with the view. It was a very convenient walk from the hotel to restaurants nearby.
Very good motel. Room was clean. No noise. Parking in the yard was easy. Location is ideal, everything is on short walking distance.
Definitely a good place to stop in Apollo Bay. Good restaurant recommendation by the lady at reception (Italian "Casalingo").
Room quality and cleanliness were very high. In town and close to brewery, cafe's, and grocery store.
Easy parking on site for your stay. Staff were available and helpful. An excellent choice in Apollo Bay.
Stunning view of the whole of Apollo bay.
Wallabies in the backyard, owner mentioned there is often a koala on the property too!
Comfortable bed despite room on the small side
Big kitchen and lounge room.
Loved the room and location. House was presented beautifully and was very clean. The breakfast was fantastic and the owners were lovely. Hands down the best place I have stayed during my Apollo Bay trips.
The view was Awesome, the apartment was great- 5 star hotel standard. Bed was sooo comfortable. I love the tiny sponges for cleaning and coffee facilities. Amazing experience.
Fantastic location. Very clean, comfy beds, good shower. Within 100m of shops on the GOR. This is my "go to" motel in Apollo Bay...hubby & I already booked in for next month!
Amazing hotel with French style design. Loved the little fountain and the beach view. We were able to sit outside tasting wine and watched the waves. Wonderful place.
Great location and views. Very quiet and easy driving distance to Apollo Bay. Best part was waking up in the morning with the views. Short walk to a great restaurant.
